In order to join an auditioned group (Suspensions, Academy, Pitch Fight, All Sharps), members must undergo the groups auditioned process. Due to the different nature, focuses, goals, and needs of the groups, the auditioning process cannot be easily generalised or summarised with a few words. Despite this, some information can be given to you in order to let you familiarise yourself with the process.
The Panel
The audition panel usually comprise of members from the auditioned groups, usually the musical director(s), performance director, and group managers. There could be familiar faces, such as the ones on committee that you’ve seen on instagram or current members from previous performances.
Duration
The ideal time set by main committee is 7-10 minutes, but from previous experience the process can be delayed or overran due to various circumstances. Late auditionees will also be given a chance to audition, but your designated slot may be switched with other auditionees. The panel may also take punctuality as a factor during auditions if competition is intense. It is thus recommended for auditionees to spare more time to accommodate for any variables.
Illness or absences
If you’re sick or unable to attend your audition. It is highly recommended to reach out to main committees or relevant personnels through instagram. But this does not affect your chances to audition if you (i) change your timeslot to another day or (ii) record your auditioning process through video and email it to the relevant personnel
Songs:
2-3 songs must be prepared for your audition, it could be any song that you prefer and there are no limitations for your song choice (yes this includes Tequila by The Champs although I don’t recommend it.) The panel may also require you to sing in scales, attempt higher/lower notes to test your abilities.
Beatboxing*
You could audition as a beatboxer, the panel may require you to beatbox in a random bps for 4 bars (16 beats).
